‘Armed and dangerous’ suspect arrested in MS Coast killing, police say. Here’s what we know

The suspect in a Mississippi Coast shooting that left one woman dead and another person injured is in custody after authorities announced his warrant this week and warned he was “armed and dangerous.”

Kialle Deshawn Ray Jr., 22, is wanted on second-degree murder and eight counts of aggravated assault in the December shooting, Gulfport police said in a news release Tuesday.

Police said Ray fired a rifle at a group and struck two people on December 17 in the area of 3318 39th Avenue.

Police found two people suffering gunshot wounds at the scene: one victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds, the release said, and a woman lying in bed in a nearby apartment suffered one gunshot wound.

Police said the woman, Donna Perkins, died at a local hospital.

The second victim survived after being treated.

Gulfport Police said Wednesday Ray “had been located and taken into custody.”

“Upon learning that he was a person of interest Mr. Ray immediately reached out to make arrangements to turn himself in, and did so this afternoon,” Lee Russell, an attorney at Russell Law Firm, said Wednesday. “Mr. Ray looks forward to the opportunity to address these charges in court.”

His bond is set at $3 million.

Police ask anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Gulfport Police Department at 228-868-5959 or Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5898.
