Armed domestic violence suspect arrested after standoff in Adelanto
A man assaulted his wife and fired a gunshot inside their Adelanto home before being taken into custody following a two-hour standoff this week, officials said.
The incident began about 6:20 p.m. Sunday in a residential neighborhood in the 11400 block of Golden Street, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
The suspect "assaulted his wife and as she left the residence with their child, he retrieved a handgun and shot one round into the garage floor," the agency said in a written statement.
He then refused orders to exit the home, leading to a standoff with deputies, officials said. A SWAT team was called in.
Officials said the man ultimately surrendered after two hours of negotiation.
"A search warrant was authored for the residence and the handgun, along with eleven additional firearms, were located," according to the statement. "One of the firearms was confirmed stolen out of Morgan Hill, California."
The suspect, who was determined to be under the influence of drugs, was booked on suspicion of felony domestic violence, shooting at an inhabited dwelling and possession of a firearm while under the influence of narcotics, county booking records show.
The Daily Press is not naming the person to protect the identity of the victim.
