Armed standoff in Orangevale ends with man’s surrender

(FOX40.COM) — Deputies detained a man after engaging in an armed standoff with him in an Orangevale residence for several hours on Friday morning.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said deputies went to the residence near Madison and Pershing Avenues for a welfare check the man’s attorney requested after the man did not appear in court.

Residences nearby were evacuated because of the law enforcement activity.

Officials said that when deputies arrived, the man came outside and presented a handgun before going back inside. At least one gunshot was heard while the man was inside.

Shortly after noon, deputies fired less than lethal rounds at the windows so that drones could enter the residence.

The man surrendered to deputies shortly after 1 p.m., the sheriff’s office said.
