Arrest made in Cherokee County shooting

Jul. 9—COLUMBUS, Kan. — Cherokee County deputies executed a search warrant Monday afternoon at a residence between Scammon and West Mineral, and arrested a 28-year-old suspect in a shooting incident.

Mark Mauser was taken into custody on suspicion of criminal discharging of a firearm and three counts of aggravated child endangerment.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Department said in a news release that Mauser is believed to have discharged a weapon at a nearby residence where three children were present. No injuries were reported. The release said several firearms were seized in the search of the suspect's home.
