Arrest made in shooting death of 24-year-old Virginia Beach man

A 20-year-old Virginia Beach man has been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting that happened last week.

Virginia Beach police responded about 3:06 a.m. on June 29 to the Atlantis Apartments off of Atlantis Drive following a report of a person with a gunshot wound, according to a news release. First responders found 24-year-old Jesus Alfredo Jeronimo Can from Virginia Beach dead at the scene.

Investigators identified Brian James II as the suspect within 24 hours, according to police. The Virginia Beach SWAT team arrested James by about 9 p.m. the same day.

James is charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
