Arrests made, warrants served at illicit massage businesses in Newberg

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Several arrests were made following warrants at two illicit massage businesses in Newberg where sexual acts were being exchanged for money, authorities said.

According to the Newberg-Dundee Police Department, detectives received tips in June about the two businesses, Amber Massage and Lavender Foot Spa, which were both on Portland Road in Newberg.

Authorities said they contacted the Oregon Board of Massage Therapists to report the potential illegal business and investigators conducted undercover operations where they said they were propositions for sexual acts multiple times on multiple days.

On July 17, authorities executed search warrants at the two businesses where they said they found fraudulent massage licenses displayed and they learned that neither business was registered with the State as a legitimate massage business.

Three arrests were made related to prostitution or promoting prostitution and authorities said that more arrests may come as the investigation continues.

During the search warrant, police were accompanied by advocates from the Yamhill County Crime Victim Assistance Office to help any potential victims of sex trafficking get connected to services as fast as possible.

One person at the Lavender Foot Spa was taken to a hospital for medical treatment, authorities said.
