Authorities recover body from Spring River

Jun. 27—CARTHAGE, Mo. — Authorities with the Jasper County Sheriff's Department have identified a body recovered Tuesday from the Spring River and are seeking an autopsy as the case is investigated.

The sheriff's office said that a call was received at 4:13 p.m. Tuesday from a truck driver who reported seeing what appeared to be a body in the water under the Spring River bridge at Interstate 49 as he drove past. Those responding found a man's body in the water.

At this point, investigators believe he may have jumped off the bridge.

The identity is not being released yet because the investigation is ongoing by the sheriff's department, which is working with the Carthage Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The next of kin has been notified, the sheriff's department said.
