Authorities search for 5 wanted in connection with armed robbery on Blue Line train

CHICAGO — Police are searching for five people who officers believe violently attacked and robbed a passenger on a CTA Blue Line train over the weekend.

Chicago police say the attack unfolded just after 1:30 p.m. on a train in the 530 block of South Racine Avenue, on the Near West Side.

According to police, five people, who are all believed to be between 16 and 18 years of age, approached a passenger on the train and pulled out a gun before demanding his property.

Officers say the victim refused the group’s demands, and that is when they began kicking and beating him before stealing his shoes.

On Monday, Chicago police shared photos of the individuals who are believed to have been involved.

Officers also provided the following descriptions of the five individuals:

Police advise the public to remain aware of their surroundings and stay free from distractions. According to officers, anyone who is confronted by an assailant should try to remain calm.

Authorities warn the public never to pursue a fleeing assailant and instead work to remember any unique physical characteristics of the offenders.

Police say those who fall victim or witness a crime should call 911 immediately and provide authorities with a detailed description of the offenders.
