Baldwin County Sheriff Hoss Mack announces retirement
BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — Baldwin County Sheriff Huey Hoss Mack is announcing his retirement after serving as sheriff for 17 years.
In a letter addressed to deputies, Sheriff Mack says he has accepted an offer to become the Executive Director of the Alabama Sheriffs Association in Montgomery.
In the letter, Mack explained that it was not an easy decision, but he believed that “the time is right to make this move. It is a great opportunity for me to work with all of Alabama’s 67 sheriffs.”
Sheriff Mack joined the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office in 1989 as a criminal investigator.
He was first elected as Baldwin County’s sheriff in 2006 and is currently serving his fifth term.
He says he plans to retire sometime in the late summer or early fall.
If needed, Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey will appoint a provisional Sheriff to serve until November’s election.
