Banking customers in Charlotte appear unaffected by global technology outage

With the global technology outage affecting Charlotte Douglas International Airport and city websites, it appears to be business as usual for Charlotte-area banking customers.

Websites are up and working well for Bank of America and Wells Fargo, WCNC reported, including ATM services.

Truist reported no issues, with a spokesperson adding, “our branches, care centers, and digital banking services are open to serve clients.”

U.S. Bank also reported having no issues.

However, some employees at JPMorgan Chase told the New York Times that they were having issues accessing their workstations. Those issues don’t seem to be affecting customers in Charlotte.

Requests for comments from several institutions weren’t immediately answered.

What happened?

The tech outage disrupted operations at many airports, including Charlotte Douglas International, several medical facilities and many service providers around the world.

The issue was attributed to a software update from CrowdStrike, “a cybersecurity firm whose software is used by scores of industries around the world to protect against hackers and outside breaches,” according to the Times.

The update led to crashes within machines using Microsoft Windows operating systems.

CrowdStrike told news outlets the issue wasn’t a security incident or cyberattack.
