Baton Rouge Community College gets $850K to upgrade trade programs

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Baton Rouge Community College was chosen as a program to be given $850,000 by Lowe’s.

According to a release, the Lowe’s Foundation picked 11 community and technical colleges to give the Gable Grants to train and remove education barriers for trade careers.

The Gable Grants were launched in 2023 to address challenges in the skilled trades workforce.

In a release from BRCC, the money would go towards establishing a new plumbing training program and building a state-of-the-art Construction Trades Outdoor Learning Lab, which will help students navigate through real-world construction scenarios.

“We are thankful to the Lowe’s Foundation for selecting Baton Rouge Community College as one of only eleven institutions nationwide to receive the prestigious Gable Grant,” said BRCC Chancellor Dr. Willie E. Smith, Sr. “This generous support from the Lowe’s Foundation is a tremendous investment in BRCC that will impact our broader community while serving as a testament to the work we continue to do to support individuals in skilled craft training and allow us to build a state-of-the-art Construction Management Outdoor Training Learning Lab.”
