Summer in Bee Cave is in full swing and that means a variety of family-friendly activities and events to enjoy. Hopefully you’ve had a chance to catch our free summer production of "Footloose" put on by Magnolia Musical Theatre in partnership with the city of Bee Cave and the Hill Country Galleria. The show runs until Aug. 10 with shows every Wednesday through Saturday at 8 p.m. Every Wednesday, the production also offers accessibility services for audience members who are blind/low vision or deaf/hard of hearing. We love how Magnolia Musical Threatre is making Broadway-style theater more accessible to our entire community.

Arts and culture are a big part of Bee Cave’s identity. In addition, supporting local businesses is always a top priority. We are thrilled to combine these community values in our first “Experience Bee Cave” theme week. We are kicking off this shop local initiative with “Bee Cultured,” which runs July 29-Aug. 4 and highlights businesses and nonprofits that provide cultural experiences. Examples include art exhibits, music classes, wine tastings and other memorable experiences. You can find a complete list of “Bee Cultured” events on the city website, beecavetexas.gov.

You may have also “herd” we have a herd of goats at Bee Cave Central Park to do some natural landscaping. The Bee Cave Parks Department partnered with Goats on the Go to bring about 40 hooved helpers to town. Their job is to clear about 5 acres of overgrown vegetation including weeds, poison ivy, poison oak and other problematic vegetation. The goats have already cleared a lot of space along the creek. They get to do what they love, and we get to manage unwanted vegetation in a sustainable way. We can restore a large, natural landscape without using herbicides or noisy equipment. It’s a win-win for our community. Our furry friends are also well-cared for and are trained to only eat certain types of vegetation. So, don’t to hesitate to come by and say hello before they move on to a different pasture in early August.

Finally, I’m excited to announce Bee Cave has a new director of communications. Crystal Cotti brings more than 12 years of experience as an Austin City Hall reporter and a business owner. Her unique combination of skills will be used to help our city, our local businesses and the public understand what’s happening in Bee Cave and what resources are available. We are committed to keeping the public informed and are thrilled Crystal has joined our little hive.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!
