Beloit woman who was struck by train dies from injuries

SEBRING – A Beloit woman who was struck by a train earlier this month has died from her injuries.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed that 21-year-old Allison Carter was pronounced dead at 4:25 p.m. Friday at Summa Health System Akron Campus.

"She fought. She really did," her mother Cindy Masters said. "It has been rough, but I don't think it has hit me yet."

Carter was with 21-year-old Michael Lawson Jr. of Alliance, who was killed, when they were struck by an Amtrak passenger train around 2 a.m. July 15 in Sebring. The collision occurred on the Norfolk Southern line near Pennsylvania Avenue between 16th and 17th streets.

"I guess they were friends. I never met him," Masters said.

Troopers from the Canfield post said Carter and Lawson were walking next to the tracks before the train approached, and it appeared they tried to cross the tracks before the train hit them.

"They don't know that," Masters said.

The collision remains under investigation.

"She was a Valentine's Day baby," said Carter's godmother Amy Coleman-Monk, a longtime family friend. "She was living at home, helping her mom. She'll be forever 21."

A GoFundMe account has been established by Coleman-Monk for Carter's family to help with any hospital or funeral expenses. A memorial service has already been held for Lawson at Temple of Faith Church of God in Christ.
