Bensalem police are investigating a report that a man pointed a gun at a couple in a supermarket parking lot Monday night after a verbal confrontation.

A woman told police that she was leaving the ShopRite in the 2200 block of Bristol Road shortly before 9 p.m. when a man made a comment to her under his breath, Bensalem Sgt. Glenn Vandegrift said.

The two started to argue and when the woman's husband tried to intervene, the man pulled a firearm from his fanny pack and pointed it at the couple and told them he'd been incarcerated before, Vandegrift said.

The man then lowered the gun and got into the passenger side of a blue Mazda with a female driver and left the area, police said.
