President Joe Biden has set an Oval Office address for Wednesday night after announcing he was ending his reelection bid.

The president posted the news on the official POTUS X account Tuesday morning.

“Tomorrow evening at 8 PM ET, I will address the nation from the Oval Office on what lies ahead, and how I will finish the job for the American people,” Biden wrote.

On Sunday, Biden took to his personal X account to suddenly reveal, via a PDF letter, that he would be ending his 2024 campaign for president amid increasingly loud cries for him to drop out of the race from high-profile Democrats and famous donors. The calls came after a disastrous debate performance against his GOP opponent Donald Trump in late June renewed concerns about Biden’s advanced age and ability to defeat Trump.

The way Biden announced his withdrawal caught news networks off guard, with many expecting a leak followed by a speech.

In his letter announcing he was ending his campaign, Biden had said he would speak to the country about his decision in more detail later this week.

Though Biden dropped out of the 2024 race, he will continue to serve out the rest of his term as president, saying in his Sunday announcement that he will “focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.”

Shortly after ending his own reelection bid, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to be the 2024 Democratic nominee. Harris has since received a flood of endorsements and appears, according to The Associated Press, to have secured enough delegate support to receive the Democratic nomination.

Biden has been isolating at his beach house in Delaware as he recovered from a bout with COVID-19.
