Birmingham teen hospitalized after crashing into 8 vehicles, jumping into Lake Orion

A 17-year-old who sheriff’s deputies said appeared to be struggling with a mental health concern was taken to a hospital Sunday afternoon after crashing his car into eight other vehicles and then jumping into Lake Orion.

The Birmingham teen "crashed his vehicle" into the other vehicles in "several communities," including Auburn Hills and Orion Township, until he abandoned it, ran to Lake Orion, went into the water, and began swimming and "screaming at other boaters," the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said.

There were no injuries.

Deputies and Orion Township firefighters got the teen into a rescue boat and brought him ashore, took him to a hospital, where authorities, who believed he was a danger to himself and others, filed a petition to have him involuntarily hospitalized.
