Body of man discovered after residential fire near Salley

Jul. 6—The Aiken County Coroner's Office is investigating the death of a man following a residential fire in the Salley area.

The fire was reported July 5 around 7:13 p.m. at a residence in the 500 block of John Nunn Highway, according to a news release from Coroner Darryl Ables.

Law enforcement and fire department personnel responded to the house and, after the fire was extinguished, the body of a man was found inside the home, according to the release.

Due to extensive thermal injuries, the victim was not immediately identified and will be autopsied in Newberry to determine the cause of death and to assist with positive identification.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Ables said.
