Boeing 757 Aircraft Loses Wheel During Takeoff, Months After A Similar Incident

A Boeing 757-200 aircraft lost a wheel as the United Airlines flight took off from Los Angeles.

None of the 74 passengers and seven crew members on the flight, which was heading to Denver, reported injuries, the airline told HuffPost.

“United Flight 1001 landed safely in Denver after losing one wheel on takeoff from Los Angeles International Airport. The wheel has been recovered in Los Angeles, and we are investigating what caused this event,” the airline said.

A Boeing spokesperson told HuffPost that the aircraft was delivered three decades ago, in 1994. The spokesperson added that Boeing stopped producing 757 aircraft in 2004.

The event is comparable to an incident in March when a Boeing 777-200 carrying 235 passengers and 14 crew members lost a tire during a flight from San Francisco to Osaka, Japan. Though no one aboard was injured, the plane’s tire damaged a parked car.

The aviation company also made headlines on Sunday night for taking a plea deal in a case involving a felony criminal charge of conspiracy to defraud the United States. The case involves two fatal 737 Max jetliner crashes in 2018 and 2019, which killed a total of 346 people.
