Bomb threat at Harbor Springs Airport investigated, not credible

HARBOR SPRINGS — A bomb threat directed at the Harbor Springs Airport on Tuesday afternoon was investigated and deemed not credible by authorities.

According to the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, the threat was reported at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30. The bomb threat was received by phone at the airport, Sheriff Pete Wallin said in a press release.

Deputies interviewed the airport attendant who received the call, who stated the call came from a number that began with the number “52.” The male caller said bombs were going to be flown to the airport and hung up after making the threat. The attendant said the caller had a Middle Eastern accent and was hard to understand.

Authorities began an investigation, and the FBI and the FAA were contacted.

Following the investigation, the bomb threat was deemed not credible.

Authorities noted that a similar bomb threat was made on Saturday, July 27 on Mackinac Island. That threat was also deemed not credible.

The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by members of the Michigan State Police, FBI and the FAA.
