Boy, 14, dies in crash at Wareham motocross track. It's the second fatal crash in 3 years

WAREHAM − For the second time in three years, a youngster has died in a crash at a Wareham motocross track.

A 14-year-old boy died Saturday afternoon at Diamond MX on Atwood Farm Way, WCVB reported.

Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz said that shortly after 12:35 p.m., Wareham police received a 911 call regarding a crash involving a dirt bike at a motocross track at 131 Atwood Farm Way, the listed address for Diamond MX.

The boy, whom authorities did not identify, was suffering from serious injuries when Wareham police officers and emergency medical services personnel, along with Onset firefighters, arrived at the track.

Cruz said the boy was taken to Tobey Hospital in Wareham, where he was pronounced dead.

"The Diamond MX family extends our deepest condolences to the riders family and all involved," reads a post on the Diamond MX Facebook page. "Diamond MX is committed to providing a safe riding experience. We can confidently say all safety measures were taken and in place."

Diamond MX was closed Sunday out of respect for the victim's family and employees of the track.

State Police detectives are investigating the crash.

Wareham police said one of its officers was involved in a motor vehicle crash on the way to the track. The officer was taken to Tobey Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
