Brave Pigs Fight Off Bear Invading Connecticut Farm

A hungry bear faced an unexpected counterattack and fled the scene after invading the pen of two large pigs on a farm in western Connecticut, security footage shows.

Video from Rebecca Shaw, captured on her farm near New Milford in March 2022, shows the bear perched on the fence around the pen and eyeing one of Shaw’s pigs, named Mary.

Mary appears either unaware or unbothered by the bear’s presence. However, as soon as the bear drops down into the pen, Mary charges and headbutts the bear several times. The second pig, Hamlet, then emerges from a shed and charges, grunting and growling, prompting the now-frightened bear to leap back out over the fence.

Shaw told local media that she had been “blown away” by her pigs, especially Hamlet — nicknamed Hammy — whom she said was usually “afraid of his own shadow.”
