Brevard Public Schools is once more an A district, Florida school grades for '23-'24 show
For the first time since 2019, Brevard has jumped back up to its pre-pandemic status as an A-rated school district, according to data released Wednesday by the state department of education.
While most schools maintained their current grades, a handful went up a grade, according to the scores. Notably, all D schools were bumped up to C ratings. Only two schools dropped a grade.
The grades were released during the yearly superintendent summit, when teachers and principals come together to hear from Brevard Public Schools Superintendent Mark Rendell and other staff and administrators at the district.
"The force was with us today, as the announcement was coincidentally released by the state during Dr. Mark Rendell’s #SuperintendentSummit where hundreds of school leaders, a few Storm Troopers and three school board members were in attendance," the district posted to their Facebook page, along with a photo of several BPS employees, Storm Troopers and Darth Vader at Kennedy Space Center, where the summit was held.
School and district grades are calculated by the state based on multiple factors, including student achievement, learning gains and graduation rates. Brevard initially fell from an A to a B district during the 2021-2022 school year, after receiving no grade in 2020-2021, when schools could choose whether or not to opt in to score due to a lack of assessments at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, the district has maintained a B — until this year.
