Buffalo County dairy farm hosts Dairy Breakfast for the second time

Mondovi, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – June Is Dairy Month in Wisconsin, and a Buffalo County dairy farm is making county history after hosting the county dairy breakfast for the second time. First News at Nine’s, Alaina Tomesh, tells us about this multi-generational farm and what it means to them to have this honor.

Dairy month in Wisconsin is not complete without going to your local dairy breakfast, getting up early to tour a farm, riding a tractor, and eating cheese curds and ice cream for breakfast. “We love our dairy experiences, what better way to get our neighbors surrounded in ag.”

It also provides an opportunity for people to actively learn about their local agriculture. “You know what a great tradition to keep people interested in ag and really enjoy the community.”

This year in Buffalo County, Mar-Bec Dairy hosted the annual breakfast. The family knew what to expect though. As they hosted the event back in 2012, making them the first farm in county history to host the breakfast for a second time. Co-owner Jonathon Hallock says he is just proud to be representing the dairy community, we are getting to be fewer and fewer numbers but it’s great to see the number of people who are curious about what we do here and we get the chance to share our story and what we do here, so I’m always humbled and thankful to tell that story.”

The multi-generational dairy has been around since 1993, and they’re always happy to show visitors everything they’re doing on the farm. “Being with all the people and getting to talk with everybody and allow them to discover and be curious about what we’re doing here on the dairy.”

The breakfast was originally scheduled for Saturday, but it was rescheduled due to rain. Despite the change, over 1,000 people came to support their local dairy farmers. “It’s very humbling to see the amount of people who came out to support us today.”

Over the past 31 years, the Hallocks have expanded their farm and even currently have around 1,000 cows at the farm.
