Building damage from Helene? Here are resources for Tampa residents.

With many residents still reeling from Hurricane Helene, the city of Tampa has launched two “pop-up permit centers” in the hope of simplifying repairing and rebuilding process.

For the next two weeks, construction services staff will be on hand Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Marjorie Park Marina, 97 Columbia Drive, and DeSoto Park, 2617 Corrine Street.

On weekends, the centers will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“Our goal is to streamline the process and support our citizens through each step as efficiently as possible as we seek to maintain our community’s long-term resilience,” Abbye Feeley, the city’s interim administrator of development and economic opportunity, said in a statement Tuesday.

The following actions do not require a permit at this time:

  • Drywall repairs 2 feet or less from the finished floor

  • New roof covering, or the repairing of an existing roof covering, so long as it is 500 square feet or less

  • Painting, papering, tiling, carpeting, cabinets and countertops

  • Fence repair and replacements

  • Soffits and fascia repairs

  • Front and rear exterior door replacement

Fees on storm-related damage permit applications are waived between Sept. 23 and Nov. 3 for the following actions:

Trade Permits

  • Roof repairs and replacement over 500 square feet

  • Electrical work

  • HVAC and water heater change-outs

  • Replacement of exterior and garage doors

Building Permits

  • Alteration permits to include wall repair or replacement

  • Demolition permits related to storm damage

The city is also offering expedited permit review for the above types of permits and inspections.
