Bull ‘Flings Woman Into the Air’ After Hopping Fence at Oregon Rodeo
A bull who was set to be the last bull ride of the night at a rodeo in Sisters, Oregon hopped a 6-foot fence and ran through the terrified crowd of 5,500, injuring three people on Saturday, June 8th. The crowd at the 84th Sisters Rodeo was singing along with Lee Greenwood's “God Bless the U.S.A." when the incident occurred.
6abc Action News shared a harrowing video of the bull running through the concessions area of the event and slamming into a woman, flinging her into the air. As she lands, it appears that the bull steps on her before exiting the event area and heading into the parking lot. You can hear stunned onlookers asking if the woman was okay, and where the bull had gone. Warning, the video is not easy to watch.
I can't imagine the fear and chaos that happened once the crowd realized the bull was coming over that wall. Fortunately, only three people were injured and by Sunday morning, all were released from the hospital. 6abc Action News commenters left more than 8 thousand comments about the video. Hundreds of commenters asked the same question that @Michelle did; she received more than 42 thousand likes for her comment, "Why was she just standing there?"
Others pointed out that the woman had on a red shirt, a color that bulls are attracted to. @Kay got nearly 50 thousand likes when she pointed out, "I’m just realizing she had a red shirt on OMG!" @Tiny Jess was the voice of reason and had my favorite comment, "There’s a lot of “why is she just standing there” but I think it’s all just happened so fast to where she didn’t even see it there was a loose bull on the side of that building." I agree. It's totally possible that the people outside had no idea what was going on.

More Details About the Loose Bull at the Oregon Rodeo
The Sisters Rodeo Association issued a statement on Sunday saying three people were injured "as a direct result of the bull, two of whom were transported to a local hospital," NBC affiliate KTVZ-TV reported. A deputy also sustained minor injuries when responding to the incident. Rodeo professionals were able to secure the bull next to livestock holding pens and placed it in a pen.
The Professional Rodeo Cowboys had a reminder for rodeo fans, "While rodeo is a highly entertaining sport, on very rare occasions it can also pose some risk."
Brian Witt, the Sisters Rodeo spokesman told KOIN, "We prevented everything we could, but we just can't prevent a very athletic bull jumping six feet over a fence. It's very rare. It rarely happens. But it does happen." While this story was shocking to hear and the video hard to watch, the happy ending is that nobody sustained serious injuries, and fortunately nobody was killed.
