Busy down ballot in Lodi area for November election

Jul. 16—The San Joaquin Registrar of Voters officially announced Monday that nomination papers for candidates on a variety of boards and commissions can be obtained and filed by Aug. 9.

Along with races for Lodi City Council, U.S. Congress District 9, California Senate District 5 and California State Assembly 9, Lodi and Galt voters will cast ballots for four other elections.

There are three seats up on the Lodi Unified School District Board of Education this November in Areas, 2, 6, and 7.

The Area 2 seat is currently held by Board President Gary Knackstedt, who has been on the board since 2016. His seat encompasses Bear Creek High School and Christa McAuliffe Middle School, as well as Creekside, Julia Morgan, John Muir, and Manlio Silva elementary schools, and Elkhorn School

The Area 6 seat is currently held by Dr. Rommel Bal, who was appointed by the board last year to replace Ron Freitas after winning the race for San Joaquin County district attorney in 2022. Her seat encompasses Clairmont, Larson, Mosher Elementary and Westwood elementary schools

The Area 7 seat is currently held by Joe Nava, who has also been on the board since 2008. His seat encompasses Delta Sierra Middle School, Plaza Robles and McNair high schools, and Oakwood, Parklane, Sutherland and Wagner-Holt elementary schools.

In Galt, the Area 3 seats for both the Galt Joint Union Elementary and Galt Joint Union High school districts are up for grabs.

Casey Raboy currently serves Area 3 on the elementary school board, and was elected in 2020.

Patrick Maple serves Area 3 on the high school board, and was also elected in 2020.

The San Joaquin Delta College Board of Trustees' Area 2 seat is up for grabs, which encompasses Lodi, Galt, the Delta and northern Mountain House. The seat is currently held by Lodi resident Dr. Charles Jennings, who was first elected in 2018.

In Sacramento County, seats held by Jay Vandenburg and Kevin Papineau on the Galt City Council will also be up for grabs this November. Both Vandenburg and Papaineau were elected in 2020.

Nomination papers can be obtained and filed at the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters Office, 44 N. San Joaquin St., Third Floor, in Stockton.

Papers are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9. If an incumbent does not file by the deadline, candidates will have until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14 to turn papers in.

Candidates for Galt City Council can obtain and file papers at the Sacramento County Registrar of Voters Office, 700 65th St., Suite A, in Sacramento.
