‘Say bye to daddy’: Final moments before mom killed 3-year-old son, herself

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (WJW) – Authorities in Texas put together a timeline of the final hours of a mom’s life before she fatally shot both her and her 3-year-old son in March.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar held a press conference on Thursday, May 1 with updated information about the murder-suicide, which happened on March 18.

Savannah Kriger and her 3-year-old son, Kaiden, were both found dead with gunshot wounds to their heads in a drainage ditch at Tom Slick Park on March 19.

Kriger’s death was previously ruled a suicide, while Kaiden’s death was ruled a homicide, according to Salazar. Kaiden was at the center of a custody battle between his parents.

According to Salazar, based on Kriger’s GPS phone records, she left her work parking garage in downtown San Antonio in a 2023 Lincoln Aviator around 12:49 p.m. and drove toward her ex-husband’s home.

She arrived at his home, located in Verde Bosque, at around 1:15 p.m. That is where she is believed to have entered the home and damaged some of his personal belongings while he was at work, according to Salazar.

She then drove toward her home, located in Dovers Den, San Antonio, at around 1:57 p.m., according to Salazar. Detectives later found wedding dresses and wedding portraits with bullet holes displayed on her bed.

Salazar also mentioned that shell casings found at her home matched the casings found where the bodies were discovered.

According to Salazar, Kriger then left her home around 2:18 p.m. and picked up her son from his daycare at 2:33 p.m.

At 2:46 p.m. Kriger’s call history shows a Facetime call that was made to her ex-husband. During that call, he used another phone to record the conversation.

“You don’t have anything to go home now, you really don’t,” Kriger said in the video. “ You don’t have anything at the Dovers Den house either. And you won’t have anything at all at the end of the day.”

According to Salazar, Kriger then drove to Tom Slick Park after that call at around 3:03 p.m.

Salazar said records show that Kriger- ex-husband did call 911, and explained that he was driving to his home. He then took photos of the damage that was done at his home, believed to have been caused by Kriger.

At 3:19 p.m. Kriger’s call history shows that she tried to call him again. Her last text message to him says, “Say goodbye to your son,” according to Salazar.

At 3:21 p.m., Kriger tried to call him one more time before recording a 21-second video where she and Kaiden appeared to already be seated at the drainage ditch where their bodies were found 19 hours later.

According to Salazar, the video shows Krider instructing Kaiden to say “bye to daddy,” which he does. She then apologizes to Kaiden for his daddy not being there and then gave him a kiss.

“There is nothing graphic about the video, but it seems to be pretty clear what her intentions were at that point,” Salazar said during the press conference.

According to Salazar, the phone Kriger was using to make the phone calls was used to look up children’s content on YouTube around 3:20 p.m.

Prosecutor moves to drop fake gun charge against 15-year-old who was shot by police

Kriger and Kaiden’s bodies were found on March 19 after an Amber Alert was issued the previous day.

According to Salazar, a gun was found at the scene near her body.

The gun was previously purchased by a freind of Kriger’s at a sporting goods store. That friend then sold it to Kriger as a “legal transaction.”
