Cannes Roundup: ‘On The Road,’ ‘Sushi Girl,’ ‘Think Of Me,’ More

This year’s Cannes Film Festival starts in just over a week, and as always the main spring event in the global film world exerts its gravitational pull on independent films. New projects are announced, others sell rights in various territories and still others take advantage of the media platform to make any kind of announcement.

This year is no exception. Today’s biggest announcement was probably that AMC Networks had acquired U.S. rights to Walter Salles’ film of Jack Kerouac’s Beat Generation touchstone novel On The Road. The film, which is in competition at the festival, stars Kristen Stewart, Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, Kirsten Dunst and Amy Adams. Cinetic Media is handling international sales.
