Cape Coral man arrested after adding illegal 'boom' to fireworks display, police say

Cape Coral Police arrested a man who apparently thought the city needed a little more "boom" with its fireworks celebration.

Cape Coral Police said in a news release Friday that Jarred Daniel Hill, 30, was at a party in Southwest Cape Coral about 9:30 p.m. Thursday when witnesses said they heard him say he wanted to shoot his rifle into the air as others lit fireworks.

A person recognized that Hill had been drinking and took the rifle. Hill followed the person inside a home and started a physical argument.

The person said they turned around and Hill was pointing a black handgun at them.

Hill fired one round, missing them, the release said.

Officers recovered the rifle and the handgun. They found damage to the doorframe and a shell casing on the floor.

While arresting Hill, he resisted the attempts to place him in handcuffs.

He faces charges of aggravated assault with a weapon, battery, and resisting and officer without violence. Police said he was taken to Lee County Jail, which did not have updated information Friday where bond had not yet been set.

He is due in court on Aug. 5.
