Car found underwater at Scioto River by fisherman, prompting investigation

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A large law enforcement presence was in northwest Columbus at the Scioto River after a car was found underwater Saturday morning.

A spokesperson for the Columbus Department of Fire said multiple crews were sent to the intersection of Riverside Drive and Lane Road at around 10:30 a.m. for a water rescue.

A fisherman on the water found a vehicle underwater using sonar and called 911. Columbus fire divers went into the Scioto River and found a vehicle on its roof. A Columbus fire spokesperson said sediment was on top of the car, leading investigators to believe the car has been underwater for a prolonged period of time.

No one has been found in the water as a result of this incident, per a Columbus Fire spokesperson.

At 11:30 a.m., Columbus fire confirmed they are handing over the investigation to Columbus police’s dive recovery team.
