Carjacking brings prison term for South Jersey man

PHILADELPHIA — A 21-year-old Gloucester Township man has been sentenced to almost nine years in federal prison for a carjacking here.

Ronald Brown took a car at gunpoint from two people sitting outside a Dunkin' in South Philadelphia in July 2023, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Brown fled when Philadelphia police officers saw him in the stolen vehicle the next day, according to the federal prosecutor's office.

When officers spotted the car a second time, Brown sped away, but crashed into a building.

Police arrested him after a foot chase and recovered the gun used in the carjacking from the stolen vehicle.

A court record describes the gun as a .40 caliber semi-automatic firearm loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition.

Brown admitted guilt earlier this year to carjacking and carrying a gun during a violent crime.

U.S. District Judge John R. Padova on Tuesday sentenced Brown to 105 months' imprisonment at a hearing in Philadelphia federal court.

Brown also is to spend five years on supervised release.
