Caught on video: Daytona Beach man knocks over Port Orange officer while driving stolen car

A Daytona Beach man remained locked up Monday without bail after he knocked down a Port Orange police officer with a stolen car and then fled, according to an incident report and body camera footage.

Police on Friday tracked down Ah'Lijah Balk, 20, who was in a stolen Mercedes Benz in the parking lot of the Sunrise Oaks Apartments. Officers with guns drawn shouted "hands up" and "don't move" at the man, but held their fire, the footage shows.

Balk put the vehicle in gear and knocked over Officer Hunter Clay. Clay's uniform pants' legging tore and he suffered road rash on his knee and a cut on his thumb, a police incident report states. Clay got to his feet, got into his patrol car, and began chasing Balk.

Multiple officers pursued the vehicle. During his escape attempt, Balk, struck multiple police patrol vehicles, including one when the road he took ended in a cul-de-sac, investigators said.

Balk eventually fled the stolen vehicle but was caught after a foot chase by Clay and another officer, the arrest report states.

Balk was charged with three counts of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony, grand theft, criminal mischief, petty theft, obstructing an officer without violence, and attempted fleeing and eluding.
