Champaign Police seek details on bank robbery

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Champaign Police Department is requesting help from the public in locating a bank robbery suspect.

Before 9:09 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, a man entered a bank near West Springfield Avenue and South Country Fair Drive. He demanded money and threatened the staff, implying he had a gun. Police said the suspect then ran away from the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.

Officials said no one was hurt in the incident and a gun was never shown or fired during the robbery. They also said no arrests have been made as of yet.

Champaign Police continue to investigate the bank robbery and are asking for assistance. Nearby homeowners or businesses with outdoor security cameras are asked to notify police, as the footage may be of use in this investigation.
