Chaos erupts in courtroom after man convicted of murdering teen leaps at her father

Chaos erupted late Friday after a man convicted of murdering a teenage student during a botched robbery of Yeezy sneakers four years ago tried to attack the girl’s father during the sentencing in a Miami-Dade County courtroom.

Adrian Cosby, 22, leapt from his chair as the father of Andrea Camps-Lacayo read from a prepared statement and blamed his daughter’s death, in part, on Cosby’s upbringing.

“What the f... you talking about bitch,” Cosby said before leaping from his chair. It took about a half dozen police and corrections officers to subdue him. And as he was being hauled away, family and friends in attendance erupted with outbursts.

Adrian Cosby has to be restrained in a Miami-Dade courtroom late Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, after he was found guilty of murdering Andrea Camps-Lacayo, an 18-year-old student at Terra Environmental Research Institute in West Kendall. She was killed in 2020 in a botched robbery of expensive sneakers. Cosby leapt at Andrea’s father while he was reading a statement in court.

People in the crowded courtroom looked for cover and backed away as Cosby’s family and friends left and were ushered out of the courtroom. Only a few minutes earlier, a 12-member jury had found him guilty of first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder and strong-arm robbery with a firearm.

Botched robbery of Yeezy sneakers

Prosecutors from the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office say Andrea lost her life during a botched robbery of three pairs of Adidas Yeezy sneakers, a pricey joint venture between the shoe giant and music superstar Kanye West.

She and her boyfriend, both Miami-Dade high school seniors, were trying to sell the sneakers to make some money during the early days of the pandemic.

In April 2020, they met up in Homestead with Cosby and his friend, George Oshane Walton, who was convicted of first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder and attempted robbery with a firearm earlier this year. He was sentenced to life in prison.
