Chatham County Police asks public for help with investigation of fatal highway shooting

The Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) is asking eyewitnesses to come forward with information as they investigate a fatal shooting that occurred on Thursday afternoon on Hwy. 204, according to a CCPD press release.

Just after 2 p.m. on July 25 at Hwy. 204 near Gateway Boulevard, CCPD officers responded to shots fired report. An adult male occupant of a vehicle was seriously injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment where he later died, the press release states.

While the investigation is in its very early stages, CCPD detectives believe the victim was shot by the occupant of another vehicle. Detectives are continuing to analyze forensic evidence and conduct interviews as they work to determine a motive and a suspect.

Investigators believe a number of people in traffic witnessed the shooting and are now asking anyone who saw the incident to come forward. Anyone who would like to speak with a detective directly about the case can call the CCPD’s Criminal Investigation Division at 912-651-4717. Anonymous tips are also accepted and can be sent through the Chatham County Police Department app, or the Department’s online tip form found here: police.chathamcountyga.gov/Tips.
