Chevron donates $100K to help South Fork, Salt fire victims

Jul. 15—Chevron U.S.A. Inc. announced last week it donated $100,000 for South Fork and Salt fires relief and recovery efforts.

Chevron said $75,000 of the money will go to the Greatest Need Impact Fund for Lincoln and Otero Counties, which is held with the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico. Another $25,000 will go to the Mescalero Apache Tribe.

The fires burned more than a combined 25,500 acres in the Ruidoso area, as well as more than 1,400 structures, and left two people dead.

In a statement, Darrell Carriger, Chevron's Delaware Basin operations manager in New Mexico, cited the company's more than 100 years of operation in the state.

"Chevron is committed to supporting first responders, tribal and local governments, and nonprofit organizations as they work to contain these fires and address impacts across Lincoln and Otero counties," Carriger said.

In addition to its donation, Chevron said it will match qualifying donations to wildfire relief efforts made by employees and retirees, "as well as provide financial contributions to nonprofit organizations where employees volunteer."
