City commission to meet day after election, results could determine panel's future
The Tallahassee City Commission will meet the day after Election Day – but depending on the results, one commissioner could face his final days of service.
Commissioner Curtis Richardson is up for reelection against challenger Dot Inman-Johnson and city voters will get to choose between the two for City Commission Seat 2, a contest that could change the commission's voting majority.
If Inman-Johnson wins, she would officially take office at the city's reorganization meeting set to take place on Nov. 18. Her victory would likely tip the current voting majority of Richardson, Mayor John Dailey and Commissioner Dianne Williams-Cox to lean toward Commissioners Jack Porter and Jeremy Matlow.
At the upcoming Nov. 6 meeting, city commissioners will discuss items revolving around the Airport Gateway and grants going towards the Tallahassee Police Department.
Here's what commissioners will consider at their meeting
More construction for the Airport Gateway
In accordance with the Tallahassee Land Development code, the commission will look at a road construction request by the Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency.
Grants for the Tallahassee Police Department
TPD is looking for approval for over $400,000 in grant money from the Florida Department of Transportation as well as a Justice Assistance Grant and money from the Florida Division of Emergency Management.
Firefighters pension public hearing
After a contentious discussion which ended in commissioner voting 4-1 to accept the three-year firefighter contract, commissioners will vote to schedule the public hearing to amend the city's pension ordinance to match the terms of their new contract.
