City of Malibu petitions federal appeals court in effort to curb LAX flight path noise
Citing noise complaints generated by three new flight paths out of Los Angeles International Airport, Malibu is petitioning a federal appeals court to reverse a recent Federal Aviation Administration decision.
The City of Malibu claims that these flight paths, identified as HUULL TWO, IRNMN TWO and RYDRR TWO, have strong noise impacts when planes are taking off and landing.
In February, the FAA ruled that these paths would be excluded from future environmental discussions.
“Like every community in America, Malibu needs to able to enjoy peace and quiet as an important part of community health and wellness,” said Mayor Steve Uhring. “However, our residents, as well as the habitats and wildlife of the Santa Monica Mountains, are heavily impacted by aircraft noise. I urge the FAA to work with Malibu to find solutions so that we can protect our quality of life.”
The City of Malibu said it hopes that the potential of court litigation could bring the FAA to the negotiating table.
