Clarksville Police give all clear after shooting outside Governors Square Mall

After reports of an active shooter at Governor's Square Mall on Saturday morning drew multiple law enforcement and first responder agencies, Clarksville Police determined that there was no shooting inside the mall, and following a protective sweep, the public was allowed back inside the building shortly before 2 p.m.

Saturday morning at 10:47 a.m., several law enforcement agencies responded to a 911 call reporting a shooter at the mall, Clarksville Police reported. Witnesses told responding officers that a shooting occurred in the mall parking lot and on a perimeter road.

Officers conducted a protective sweep to ensure there was no active shooter inside the mall, and to check for victims, according to the Clarksville Police Department.

Police determined that there was no shooting inside the mall. No victims have been reported.

The mall was cleared at 1:42 p.m. and employees and customers were allowed back in.

An initial investigation determined the event was an isolated incident between two people, not a random act. Detectives continue to investigate.

Agencies that responded to the incident include the Clarksville Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, the Tenneseee Bureau of Investigations, Clarksville Fire Rescue, Montgomery County Emergency Medical Services, First Call, and Vanderbilt EMS.

State Rep. Ronnie Glynn, D-Clarksville, thanked first responders for their quick response.

“The brave men and women of this department are often underappreciated, but their quick response shows their commitment and dedication to the job of keeping our community safe,” Glynn said in a statement. “I am in constant contact with the city and county mayors and stand ready to help with any resources the state can provide, if needed.”
