Clovis Unified sends $400 million bond measure to November ballot

CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE) – In a unanimous vote Wednesday night the Clovis Unified school board approved a $400 million facility bond measure for the November ballot.

The bond will address critical infrastructure needs within the district, including upgrades to several school sites, and to finish construction at the Terry P. Bradley Educational Center, the future home of Cliovis South High School.

“We are in need of additional dollars to finish that project, so we would have a middle school completed, but we would not be able to serve high school students on that campus,” Assistant Superintendent of Facilities Denver Stairs told the board.

Stairs says the bond will not increase property taxes, but instead continue the current tax rate for a longer period of time.

“We’re paying $155 per $100,000 and we’re just asking our community to continue to pay what they’re already used to,” Stairs said.

The bond comes at an important time for California schools. The state is also adding a $10 billion bond measure to the November ballot, but that money is only available to schools with current bond measures.
