CNN Shakeup: Alisyn Camerota Replacing Kate Bolduan as ‘New Day’ Co-Anchor (Exclusive)
It’s a new day for CNN’s “New Day.”
Alisyn Camerota—a longtime Fox News anchor who joined CNN in the summer of 2014—has been named co-anchor of “New Day” alongside Chris Cuomo, a spokesperson for CNN confirms to TheWrap. Camerota will replace Kate Bolduan, who has been with the show as Cuomo’s co-anchor since it launched in the summer of 2013.
TheWrap first reported that Bolduan was likely to be replaced on the morning show. She will become co-anchor of @ThisHour with John Berman at 11amET, replacing Michaela Pereira, who has been promoted from news anchor for “New Day” to co-anchor alongside Cuomo and Camerota.
Behind-the-scenes, Javi Morgado, has ascended to Executive Producer of the morning show, replacing Matt Frucci, who was cut from the show during 2014’s widespread layoffs. Morgado joined CNN in 2011 as Senior Broadcast Producer for morning shows. Jim Murphy will remain Senior Executive Producer.
Camerota’s officially starts as co-anchor on January 19th; Bolduan joins @ThisHour on January 26, returning from maternity leave.

The news confirms TheWrap’s reporting from November, which reported Bolduan may be replaced, and Camerota was the favorite to replace her. As TheWrap exclusively reported in August, the network was testing several women anchors with and without Cuomo to uncover which pairs had the best chemistry.

“They have tried Chris Cuomo with every available woman,” one individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap.
Cuomo and Camerota co-anchored for most of Bolduan’s maternity leave; “New Day” drew momentum in 2014, beating “Morning Joe” in the 25-54 demo for the entire year.

Camerota was the longtime weekend morning co-anchor of “Fox & Friends” on Fox News, and is well liked among CNN producers, insiders told TheWrap.
