Construction worker dies in onsite accident at Tampa International Airport: police

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A construction worker died in an onsite accident at Tampa International Airport early Wednesday morning, airport police announced.

At around 7:41 a.m., TPA police received reports of a construction accident involving a construction equipment operator. The employee was working on the Airside A shuttle guideway renovation project, according to the airport.

The worker died from his injuries.

Flight operations were not impacted following the incident; however, passengers being dropped off at Blue Arrivals are being rerouted to the Blue Express lanes while officials investigate the accident.

Police and other authorities are investigating the details of the accident. No other details are available at this time.

“We are heartbroken about the passing of one of our construction workers. We share our deepest condolences with his loved ones. Tampa International Airport is conducting a comprehensive investigation into this accident,” TPA CEO Joe Lopano said in a statement.
