Corning-Painted Post School District voters on Tuesday approved the revised $138,061,696 million spending plan featuring a 2.97% percent tax levy hike.

Under the budget, which was approved 1,698 to 834, with 67% of voters in favor, the tax rate will be $20.33 per $1,000 in assessed value, a 56-cent decrease from the 2023-24 plan, according to Paul Webster, C-PP school district business official.

"We want to thank our C-PP community for showing up to vote today," said C-PP School Superintendent Michelle Caulfield. "We are grateful for the support of our students, staff and community. We will move forward together providing the programs and services that make our students successful."

Voters rejected the original proposal in May, a $139,181,455 budget that would have raised the tax levy 4.9%. That budget exceeded the state tax cap and required a supermajority with the support of at least 60% of voters to pass. Just over 50% of voters supported the budget, which received 1,431 "yes" votes and 1,418 "no" votes.

Webster said if the modified budget had failed June 18, C-PP would have had to adopt a contingency budget, which is required by New York State law if voters turn down a school budget twice.
