Coroner releases ID of person who died in early-morning crash in Madison County
Madison County Coroner Stephen Nonn released the identity of a man who died after an early-morning crash on Interstate 70 near Troy Friday.
Douglas M. Lodge, 43, of St. Louis, died at Anderson Hospital in Maryville after his car crashed into a guardrail on eastbound I-70, then hit by a tractor-trailer.
According to a release from Nonn’s office, Illinois State Police responded to a 911 call at about 3:20 a.m. reporting Lodge’s car was disabled in the left-hand lane of the highway. It was almost 10 minutes later that the car was struck by a tractor-trailer at mile marker 18.2.
Lodge was transported to Anderson Hospital and pronounced dead at 4:56 a.m., the release stated. The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is cooperating with the investigation, Nonn said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police, the Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit, and Nonn’s office.
Eastbound I-70 from I-55 to IL 4 and the ramp from southbound I-55 to eastbound I-70 were closed for nearly four hours following the crash.
