Corpus Christi police continue investigation of human remains found Monday

Corpus Christi police continue their investigation of human remains that a Corpus Christi Water employee found Monday at a wastewater collection point, saying the remains bear "no obvious sign of homicide," according to an update given on Wednesday morning.

Detectives from the Corpus Christi Police Department Robbery and Homicide division are attempting to determine how the remains, which the CCW employee found at about 3:30 p.m. Monday while conducting maintenance, ended up inside of the Perry Place wastewater lift station, located off the 5300 block of Lexington Road, according to a news release published on the Corpus Christi Police Department blotter by Senior Officer Jennifer Collier.

Since the discovery, the remains have been transported to the Nueces County Medical Examiner, but due to the subject's advanced state of decomposition, the ME was unable to make an identification, nor provide a manner or cause of death at this time, the officer said.

The remains are now being sent to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification (UNTCHI) for DNA analysis--the foremost resource in the U.S. for the identification of missing persons and unidentified human remains, police said.

In investigations that seek to identify decedents, teams rely on multiple methods of examination, which include fingerprint analysis, forensic odontology and DNA analysis.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation should contact the CCPD Criminal Investigation Division at (361) 826-2840. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS (888-8477).
