Two people killed in Garden State Parkway crash in Paramus

Two people were killed in a crash early Friday on the Garden State Parkway in Paramus, state police said.

Troopers responded to the crash at 2:27 a.m. on the parkway’s southbound side near milepost 163.4. According to a preliminary investigation, a Honda was traveling northbound against the flow of traffic when it collided with a southbound Toyota SUV.

The driver of the Toyota, Sunday T. Ogundare, 55, of Newark, and the driver of the Honda, Diana J. Cruz, 38, also of Newark, died from their injuries, police said.

A 20-year-old female passenger from Pompton Plains in the Toyota sustained moderate injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information is available at this time.

Several lanes of traffic were closed during the investigation but reopened by late Friday morning.
