Crookston man expected to stand trial in December for alleged kidnapping, attempted sexual assault

Jul. 25—GRAND FORKS — A Crookston man is expected to stand trial in Grand Forks late this year for

four felony charges resulting from an alleged kidnapping.

Angel Alberto Torres-Sosa, 32, is charged with two Class A felonies: kidnapping and attempted gross sexual imposition by using force. Class A felonies have a maximum 20-year sentence in North Dakota.

Torres-Sosa's two other charges, aggravated assault and terrorizing, are Class C felonies.

On Oct. 15, a person — who is unnamed and whose gender is unidentified in court documents — met with Torres-Sosa at the Diamond Lounge in Grand Forks, according to an affidavit in the case. He was supposed to give the person a ride home, but instead allegedly drove somewhere else entirely.

The person was unable to escape the locked vehicle.

Arriving at an unknown location, Torres-Sosa led the person inside and into a basement, where he choked them after they resisted his sexual advances, the affidavit said. The person later told police they thought it "was the end" and went unconscious.

When they awoke, they fought against Torres-Sosa and begged to be taken outside, where they were able to escape, according to the affidavit. Torres-Sosa allegedly told police he did meet with the person at the lounge but did not recall spending time with them after leaving.

Torres-Sosa's status conference is scheduled for 9 a.m. Dec. 9. A jury trial is expected to begin the next day.
