Wiers Farm Inc. has issued a recall for cucumbers, peppers, green beans, squash and herbs for a possible listeria contamination. The items were sold in 18 states.

The produce distributor initially recalled just cucumbers on July 12 but as of July 23, the list of recalled produce has expanded. Recalled products were sold in several retailers, including Walmart and Aldi, in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

The impacted products include packaged bags under the label of Wiers Farm or Freshire Farms and bulk produce sold individually or by the pound. The full list of products can be found on the FDA website.

Young children and elderly people are at a higher risk of becoming severely sick if they contract listeria, as are immunocompromised and pregnant people. Symptoms typically include fever and flu-like reactions, such as muscle aches and fatigue, according to the CDC.

The symptoms typically begin within two weeks of eating contaminated food but can start the same day or up to 70 days later, according to the CDC.

No illnesses have been reported related to this recall. Consumers who have purchased the products are urged to contact Wiers Farm.

Separately, a multi-state listeria outbreak linked to deli meat has left 28 people hospitalized and two dead as of July 22.

The outbreak has caused 28 hospitalizations across 12 states, with two deaths — one in New Jersey and one in Illinois — being reported. New York, Maryland, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin also reported cases.

The exact source of the outbreak is ongoing, per a report from the CDC.
