Customers to be notified following Toyota Grand Highlander and Lexus TX recall

(WHNT) — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration officially issued a recall for two car companies impacting thousands of customers.

In June, certain Toyota and Lexus models were called into question following the driver’s side airbag not properly deploying.

Toyota voluntarily recalled around 145,000 of the two mid-sized SUVs in the U.S. Toyota said the issue stemmed from the curtain shield airbag not deploying during crashes where the driver’s side window was rolled down.

If this happens, the vehicles would not meet a federal safety standard, increasing the risk of injury.

On June 20, the NHTSA posted the official recall affected around 145,254 vehicles. The NHTSA document shows the recall was for the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander, Grand Highlander Hybrid, Lexus TX350, Lexus TX500 Hybrid and the Lexus TX550 Hybrid+:

  • The Grand Highlander and Grand Highlander Hybrid recall is for vehicles produced between June 13, 2023, and June 10, 2024

  • The Lexus TX350 and TX500 Hybrid recall is for vehicles produced between September 20, 2023, and June 10, 2024

  • The Lexus TX550 Hybrid+ is for vehicles produced between January 5, 2024, and June 10, 2024.

Toyota says a fix to this issue is still in the works. Customers are supposed to be notified about this recall between August 5-19. Owners will also be notified when a solution is provided.

People who own these vehicles can contact Toyota customer service at (800) 331-4331. The NHTSA said the Toyota numbers for this recall are 24TB09/24TA09 and the Lexus’ recall numbers are 24/LB05/24LA05.
