SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — After formally endorsing former President Donald Trump’s bid to retake the White House, Elon Musk has added pro-Trump emojis to Trump-related hashtags. The hashtag #MAGA now comes with a picture of the former president raising his fist in an emoji seemingly derived from the photo taken of him in the immediate aftermath of last week’s assassination attempt.

Pelosi warns Biden his candidacy could prevent Dems from taking House, Obama expresses concerns

The hashtag #Trump2024 is now accompanied by an American flag. If you click on the flag, American flags rain down across the search page.

KRON4.com typed in the hashtags #Biden and #Biden2024 and no accompanying emojis appeared.

But while Musk had been increasingly gravitating toward a pro-Trump stance prior to last weekend’s endorsement, the emojis are not actually an indication that X, formerly Twitter, has taken an official side in the presidential race. According to a report in Mashable, the emojis are part of a paid promotion.

“This is a commercially available product,” said an X representative cited by Mashable. X’s website has a page on branded content opportunities, which lists “Hashmojis” and “Hashmojis” as among the available products.
